The Average Car Buyer Will Spend 5 Hours Researching Vehicles Online


Wow that's quite a bit of time, 5 hours researching car prices. A few cups of coffee as well...I bet.

You can research for 100 hours or more...
But if you don't make contact, and get real offers from local dealers, you'll never have a real price to shop around with.

You need a real number from a dealer and a bank to shop with, or your wasting your time. The other car sites are great to see the models and features, but the pricing on them are just estimates and can get you frustrated.

Nothing works better then shopping a real dealer with offers from another dealer. Now you're able to get competing offers and ultimately your best deal started in less the 60 seconds. Why Drive to 4 dealerships and walk in blind?

Until the banks come back with financing numbers for you, based on your personal FICO score and down payment, and the dealer figures out what they need to do; to make the deal work for them and you based on the banks feed back and funding offer; (notice they were first there - NOT an Accident)- its all just and exercise in learning. Without true offers you have nothing to shop with as leverage.

So spend some time researching, but don't hesitate to jump in and get 4 car dealers making you offers.

5 hours is a lot of time to spend on-line car searching. I would like to make the time you spend fruitful...

DON'T RUSH THE TEST DRIVE!


Take a test drive, and really drive.

Get a highway and local road feel for the vehicle.

Take your time!

Don't worry about the sales person, it's your time and your money !

If you commute, or if you're tall like me; its especially important to try everything from the drivers seat.

Its hard to find everything; even with the sales person with you...

So have the sales person spend a few extra minutes going over the position of everything in the car before your test drive.

Get in and out at least 5 or 6 times... hows the back? Can you reach everything? Change radio stations, open close all windows do this all while driving as well. See if your right knee has enough room to re-adjust during long drives.

In the mid 90's I had a Jeep which I loved, but on long drives my right knee would burn with pain, and actually get numb... till I had to give in with a whimper and ask my wife to drive.

I went large to the suburban after that for the extra cabin room.

hey you'll be driving your choice for 2 to 6 years, so do your homework, get competing offers, take an extensive test drive of each of your choices.

You'll be happy you did, or angry you didnt!!!

Car Buyer Check List


Please use this list as a template that you can add too for needs.

1) Check your credit rating- knowing your credit score is helpful- when the offers are made from dealers.
Dealers use multiple banks, however they have their favorites. Their favorite may not be yours. So... Ask them to try another bank if you have a favorable score ranging 650 or better. You deserve a good interest rate and all the rebates and incentives. Typically these are the low priced deals shown on TV, Newspapers and heard on Radio.
If your Score is 650 or under your going to pay more because of passed issues or having credit lines in place that are near maximum lines of credit. ( keep credit cards 50% or less of credit line to show better FICO score, use 0% interest cards to balance transfer part of balances on cards that are more the 50% of the line. This will take 30 to 90 days to show on your report. so plan ahead.)

2) Set a budget for your new car, inclusive of insurance coverage, be realistic. many sites offer free
insurance quotes.

3) Think about your day to day activities and needs; image, commuting, family , comfort, economy, sports.

4) Do the homework on pricing vehicles that will meet your requirements and price range.

You can get a car fax inexpensively. Certainly its less expensive then buying a nightmare.

Many Dealers have car fax but you must ask for it.

If you find a car for sale online or in the newspaper; the listing will have the cars VIN number or vehicle identification number listed; just copy and paste this VIN number in the CAR FAX tool and its tells you the cars complete history.

It worth the extra step to be certain of what your buying.

Why do car dealers, make different offers on the same car?


Its important for consumers to really understand how, and why they can receive different offers for the same car... from each car dealership they visit.

There are several economic reasons for this; Each dealership uses different lenders for financing their consumers. Each financial institutions/banks; have different funding criteria. Banks can make different funding offers; with conditions based on the consumers credit score and the down payment amount inclusive of trade-ins offered by the consumer.

Also realize each dealership has different allocations of vehicles from the factories based on previous sales goals. Each dealership has different management philosophy's and overhead, or cost of doing business. All of these restrict how much the dealership needs to make per car. Ultimately, it controls what you’re offered by the sales person. We want consumers to really understand how this affects the deal offered by each dealership.
